Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s journey from a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya to a leader in conservation innovation is as enchanting as it is inspirational.

East Africa’s Largest Black Rhino Sanctuary

Today, Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and home to the world’s last two northern white rhinos. This conservancy is also the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees, rescued from the black market and rehabilitated in a dedicated sanctuary. With one of the highest predator densities in Kenya, Ol Pejeta combines successful wildlife conservation with a thriving livestock program.

A Rich and Diverse Landscape

Spanning over 350 square kilometers, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy features a mosaic of grass plains, wooded grassland, Acacia woodland, and evergreen thicket. Nestled at the foothills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya, it boasts an astounding variety of wildlife, including the Big Five—black and white rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and lion—and non-indigenous chimpanzees.
