Ol Tukai Lodge is steeped in the rich cultural history of the Amboseli region, intertwining the heritage of the Maasai community, the colonial government, and early European explorers. The lodge’s story begins with its origin as a base for the film crew of “Snow at Kilimanjaro” in 1948, starring Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward, and Ava Gardner. This film was an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s “The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories,” published in 1961. Since its opening in 1996, Ol Tukai Lodge has offered guests an authentic African safari experience enriched with cultural history.
