DAY 1: NAIROBI

Situated along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place to be. There are some fascinating attractions: its cafe culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum and most notably, just 20 minutes from the city centre, wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve. Make sure you pay a visit to the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for a once in a lifetime experience.

Take this opportunity to relax, recoup and recover from your flight. Depending on arrival time you can enjoy a game drive in Nairobi National Park or visit to the Giraffe Centre and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Refresh, dinner and overnight.

Nairobi National Park

Bordering the capital city of Nairobi, in beautiful Kenya, the Nairobi National Park is one of Africa’s smallest parks and one of the only parks on earth to be in such close proximity to a city centre. It boasts a large and varied wildlife population, amid wide open grass plains against a backdrop of city scrapers. The park is home to one of Kenya’s most successful rhinoceros sanctuaries with the world’s highest concentration of black rhinoceros. Its wetland areas are abundant with birdlife boasting over 400 bird species. Visitors can enjoy the many facilities the park has to offer such as scenic picnic sites, well-positioned campsites, and hiking trails. Commonly spotted species include lion, hyena, warthog, zebra, giraffe, ostrich, gazelle, buffalo, and sometimes if you’re lucky, leopard and cheetah.

Giraffe Centre

The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya (A.F.E.W. Kenya) also known as the Giraffe Centre is a non-governmental, non-profit making organization, which was founded by Betty and Jock Leslie-Melville in 1979. This was in a bid to save the endangered Rothschild Giraffe, which had lost its natural habitat in Western Kenya to agriculture and there were only 130 left in the wild. Funds were raised and 4 herds of the Rothschild giraffes were moved to 4 parks namely Lake Nakuru National Park, Mwea Game Reserve, Ruma National Park and Nasalot Game Reserve.

DAY 2-5: Borana Conservancy

Borana Conservancy is a non-profit organization focused on conserving habitats and endangered species, including the Patas monkey, Jackson’s hartebeest, reticulated giraffe, greater kudu, African wild dog, elephant, and rhinoceros. Visitors can experience riding safaris, game drives, guided walks, mountain biking, helicopter excursions, conservation activities, and adventures with buggies and quad bikes.

Built around a central main house, where guests gather for drinks and dinners, the lodge creates a warm atmosphere with its vaulted thatched roof, locally-sourced rosewood bar, and cozy fireplaces. Guests can relax here, sipping signature cocktails as they reflect on the day’s adventures.

During the day, enjoy the lodge’s inviting pool area, nestled within indigenous gardens beside the lunch pavilion. With a pool bar and frequent visits from vibrant birdlife, it’s a perfect spot to unwind and keep watch for wildlife passing through the valley below.

Down the hillside lies a secluded hide, offering guests a close-up view of animals visiting the water trough and Hyena Valley Dam. Equipped with picnic hampers, this hide provides a unique wildlife experience. In the evenings, the hide transforms into a magical dining spot with live Swahili-inspired cooking under the stars—an unforgettable, immersive bush dinner.

Borana Lodge aims to provide all guests with either a hide dinner or bush breakfast, weather permitting, adding an extra layer of adventure to their stay.
