This 6 Days Great Rift Valley Lakes; Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria & Lake Nakuru, the world famous Bird Sanctuaries, then head South over the Mau Escarpment to Kenya’s greatest concentration of game – the Maasai Mara- Kenya’s most popular game park, with the possibility of seeing all the big five and many other species of game. Tour Plan

1

Day 1:- Nairobi/Lake Baringo

Departing Nairobi in the morning, you drive down the escarpment (stopping enroute at the view point to view the spectacular Great Rift Valley), to Lake Baringo arriving by early afternoon in time for lunch. You will take a boat trip to see the hippos and crocodiles, natives of this fresh water lake! The bird sanctuary has recorded hundreds of bird species inclusive of pelicans, fish eagle, lilac-breasted rollers, cormorants, giant eagle owl, bee-eater among others. You will also come across the rock hyrax. Dinner and overnight at lodge.

Day 2:- Lake Baringo/Lake Nakuru via Lake Bogoria

After breakfast, you drive to Lake Bogoria, a spectacular spot with [very] hot water springs / geysers / shooting fountains! Flamingos live here and you can explore the park on foot. Among the birds found here include the pelicans, fish eagles, white faces scops owl, steppe eagles, marabou stocks, Africa gray hornbill and silverbird. On the shores, you will find baboons, zebra, gazelle and greater kudu. You then proceed to Lake Nakuru National park to arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake on the floor of the rift valley home to over 400 species of birds among them Marabou storks, hammerkops, fish eagles, pelicans, flamingos (Greater & Lesser). The Lake has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species- particularly the Rothschild Giraffe and the black and white rhino. Some of the other game resident here are Lions, Leopard, hippos, waterbuck, buffalo, Common zebra, spotted hyenas, warthogs, Jackals, Rock hyrax, bat-eared fox, Olive baboons, velvet monkeys and mongoose among others. Other highlights at Lake Nakuru National park are the spectacular view points: Baboon cliff, Lion hill and Out of Africa; the beautiful hill: Enasoit, Lion hill ridge and Honeymoon not forgetting the Makalia waterfalls at the southern end of the park. The park is also famous for its unique vegetation including the largest euphorbia forest in Africa and the yellow acacia woodlands.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru/Maasai Mara

Soon after breakfast, proceed south via the scenic Great Rift Valley to Maasai Mara to arrive in good time for Lunch. Late afternoon game drives followed by dinner and overnight the Lodge.

Day 4 & 5:- Maasai Mara

Full days spent exploring the park in search of the Big 5 among other game. Meals and overnight at the Lodge. The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is arguably Kenya’s most popular game sanctuary. It is the most famous and most visited game reserve in Kenya. The easily spotted game are virtually Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, eland, impala, antelopes, masai giraffe, elephants, buffalo, warthog, the big cats, leopard, cheetah, lion. A spectacle worth seeing is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from Serengeti plains across the Tanzania border and the Mara River to reach Maasai Mara grazing fields from late June. The dramatic crossing of the river and the preying on the migrants by predators can be viewed from early July to August. Other animals easy to see are bat-eared foxes, jackals, spotted hyenas. Mara and Talek rivers are home to hippos and crocodiles. The reserve is rich with birdlife with about 452 species recorded among them vultures, eagles, common ostrich, go-away birds, secretary bird, cranes, storks, hamerkop, hornbills. Hot air balloon safaris are readily available in this park at an extra cost of US$450. At extra cost you may visit a local Maasai village to see their nomadic lifestyle; the Masai are famous for their bravery, as they have co-existed with the animals over the years.

Day 6:- Maasai Mara/Nairobi

Morning game drive to further explore the Masai Mara reserve, then you drive to Nairobi via Narok; we stop to browse in the bustling, vibrant Masai markets to buy curios and handicrafts before continuing to Nairobi where our safari ends.
